~Codes of Ethics that are meaningful to me~

~We shall continually be aware of issues challenging the field of early childhood special education
and advocate for changes in laws, regulations, and policies leading to improved outcomes and
services for young children with disabilities and their families.
So many times we hear of families of children with disabilities no having the resources they need or deserve in order to properly educate their child.  As educators we have to remain knowledgeable on policy, laws and regulation to ensure our special education curriculum promotes success for our special education students.

~We shall build relationships with individual children and families while individualizing the curricula
and learning environments to facilitate young children’s development and learning.
This code is really important to me.  I’m a strong believer of building a relationship with the children I encounter.  Its wonderful to educate a child, but when they feel that you care about them learning as well as their total well being that child feels safe to truly thrive and reach for goals they otherwise would be timid about obtaining.

~We shall demonstrate in our behavior and language respect and appreciation for the unique value
and human potential of each child.
Respect goes both ways in order to receive it we also must give it. All people deserve respect and children are little people whom if we treat them with respect they will in turn show us respect also.

  1. I think you chose three important aspects of our responsibility as educators. You made an excellent point about building relationships with children. We not only teach children through the information we pass along but also through our actions. It is very important for us to allow children to feel safe and secure. Without this need being met first, we will not be able to connect with the inner child to help him reach his full potential. Thank you for sharing this with us!

  2. Children are very unique and it is important to teach them based on their individual needs and developmental level. Providing children with or without disabilities with a safe learning environment where they feel secure and a sense of ownership in the class will ensure great possibilities. Thanks for being an advocate for children with disabilities.

  3. Hi Tiffany, you have chosen three very important codes of ethics. I think this course has taught us all the importance of being advocates for young children, especially those with special needs. Our respect for the uniqueness of each child and desire to help them reach their full potential will be greatly enhanced by building strong relationships with the children and their families. Thanks for sharing.
